Youth sports are important to many families, and my family is no exception. My son has been playing hockey since right before he turned four years old and has been a goalie for his hockey team for five years. Needless to say I have been around youth sports and the people that volunteer their time for a while.

That being said, if you know someone that is volunteering their time to help with youth sports please make sure you tell them how much you appreciate them. The vast majority of coaches and team managers volunteer their time because they love the game and the kids that participate. If I were to guess, my son’s coaches volunteer between ten to twenty hours each week between practice preparation, the practices, and the games. That is a part time job. I know many of us parents get excited about our children, and often we can forget that the coaches and team managers are there because they care about your kid and they want your child to succeed. I encourage you to take a deep breath and thank them for their times before you start making your suggestions.

Thank You Youth Sports Coaches!!!

Now, keeping the kids motivated on a team can be tricky. And sometimes it requires different forms of encouragement. One of the coaches came to me and asked if I could make a huge necklace to be given out to the kids. I said sure of course, but I liked the reasoning behind his request. Most teams have a game Most Valuable Player and that player will get a game ball or puck, or some other memento for their efforts. This is great, but this coach took it a step beyond the game. He wanted to encourage the kids to try their hardest in practice to, so his request was for a Hardest Working Player of the Week Award.

Cool twist on the MVP

It is a fairly simple design, but its big and bold!

Keep up the good work coaches and Let’s Go Outlaws!
