I have been enjoying the world of 3d printing for a little over a year now. There are so many things that can be done with this emerging technology. This does scare some people because they are afraid that it could be used to produce a weapon, so there are laws being suggested that would create a database of files and mandate a kill switch inside the printer’s firmware. Personally I was attracted to 3d printing because of the opportunity. I do not have a huge income so I am constantly watching what I buy. Since getting a printer I have been more free to do things. When I want to give a gift I can print it off for a couple of dollars or less. And as someone that grew up on a farm, I can see the amazing potential it has when fabricating parts.
Which brings me back to the laws potentially restricting files and having a kill switch on the printer that can’t be bypassed. Printing tools are important, and many tools since they are made to work within our hands they have similar shapes. And there are times where you or I may not know what the purpose of a tool is for, but for those that need it, the ability to have access is paramount.
That is just a rant. If apologize but I truly believe it. We should be able to print whatever we want and need. We are able to print whatever we want and need. Case in point. Shoes.
I have had a spool of TPU Filament for a year, unopened, because I have been afraid to try it. This type of filament absorbs moisture from the air very quickly, and I don’t really have a set up to keep it dry. So I have put off attempting to use this plastic. I finally decided I have had enough. I need to use this plastic but for what? Shoes.

I found this file on Creality Cloud. It is a simple shoe but surprisingly comfortable.
There are several different types of shoe files available on several of the 3d printing sites. So far my favorite design is by Formism. There are even companies that are selling 3d printed shoes that are customized to your feet, like Zellerfeld.
The point I am trying to make is that we are a creative species. We find a way to make the tools and products we need and want from children’s toys to shoes. And we should not limit the creative capacity of people because we are afraid that they might use a tool for a nefarious purpose.
